How to reach your wildest dream in 6 steps (1/6)

In this post series, I want to show you an easy six-step guide to reach the big dream you have in mind, that life changing goal that doesn't let you sleep at night. If your goal is to find your dream job, to buy a home, to be healthier, to travel around the world, to start a business or just to be happy, I am pretty confident that every step is a key to successfully reach those goals.

If you read my story, you may know what my most desired dreams were a few years ago:

  1. I was looking forward to becoming a working mom, and
  2. I was looking for relocation in the U.S.

For moms with a nine-to-five job, my first goal sounds like a piece of cake: saving some money, quitting your job, and starting to work on something else from home. For those who have always lived in the same country, the second goal sounds like an easy and funny goal: buying a ticket, packing, and moving your stuff.

But the ugly truth is, these two scenarios are far, far, faaaaaaar away from the real world. Goals like these ones can take months and even years to be accomplished. They may require hard work, but late nights and long hours can really pay off if you’re working towards a big dream.

I truly believe that all the crazy goals you may have are completely reachable goals. I believe if you DREAM and DO what you need to do, you can SHINE! We have the ability to dream, and we have the ability to succeed.

The only problem is that we don’t know how!

Nobody teaches us at college how to reach out for our wildest dreams. There is nothing like “mastering goals, settings, and success degree” at college, right? Because of this lack of knowledge, most people with a goal in mind just start trying to do things they think are going to help with their goals. Other people (usually women, HA!) write a plan but abandon it when time goes by and they don’t see the results they were expecting. The reasons? Their motivation drops, they get stuck; they don’t know what to do. Other people think they are too old to reach their dreams, or too young, or too busy… there are excuses everywhere! Sadly, excuses prevent you from reaching your full potential, and also hold you back from doing what you want and need to do.

In this post series, I want to show you an easy six-step guide to reach that big dream you have in mind. The one that doesn’t let you sleep at night. If your goal is to find your dream job, to buy a home, to be healthier, to travel around the world, to start a business or just to be happy, I am pretty confident that every step is a key to successfully reach those goals.

These are the six steps I used to reach my goal of giving my family a better quality of life by moving to the U.S and change my story.… and here I am, writing this post while staring at the Park Avenue building! So, if I could do it, you can do it!

The six steps to reach your wildest dream are:

  1. Find your WHY
  2. Set a deadline
  3. Write your daily affirmation
  4. Write a master plan and timeline
  5. Share your plan with a goal-mentor
  6. Track your progress and celebrate your victories

So without any more introductory stuff, lets get into it with the first step to reach your wildest dream:

STEP 1 – Find your WHY

This is the most important step in this guide. No matter how hard you try, reaching your goals may be an exhausting and frustrating process. You may easily fail in every attempt, have obstacles, and fail again, but nothing matters if you know your WHY – the true reason why you want to reach that goal. You need to find the motivation to work your arse off.  In some of the Facebook communities I spend time there is a debate about reaching goals by finding an internal/external motivation or by taking action and doing the first step. I kind of agree and disagree with both sides, but when we are talking about wild dreams or life changing goals I believe in motivation over willpower.

So let’s say that you want to become a working-from-home mom, but before starting to boil the ocean, you have to make sure you understand your WHY. Why do you want to be a working-from-home mom? Do you want to manage your time on your own? Do you want to have more time to share with your kids? Do you want more time to share with your husband?

Which of the above make you feel butterflies in your stomach?

The answer is your WHY! That’s the BIG fish you are trying to catch. Being a working-from-home mom is not the big goal; rather, having more time with your kids is. Your WHY is going to be your wildest dream and is going to motivate you when you are falling down, when everything seems to be failing and when you are about to lose your sh*t. When it is 6:00 a.m. and you don’t want to wake up, your WHY is going to be your gasoline to fire you up.

Find your why, think about it, feel it like it is already true, and now jump to STEP 2 – Set a deadline!

But before you leave, share in the comments what is your WHY? what makes you feel butterflies? Do you believe in self-motivation over willpower?  Share your WHY in our Facebook community and find awesome people with similar motivation than you!

My why is because I believe in a new world: a world where money, politics, borders, governments become redundant. I believe the schooling should be in 3D and kids should travel, understand other cultures from within, be a Muslim for a month and perhaps a Buddhist for another. Live and work in Africa alongside the poor, stay with the Mauri for a summer. See how they see, hear how they hear and feel how they feel. Then you are a true human being. And as a parent, I think it’s my job to open these horizons for my kids.

I want to be a work from home Mom. My WHY is because I want to spend more time with my daughter and husband. I want to have low stress and freedom. I want to travel more and see the world. That is my biggest dream and it’s hard to do when your boss only allows you off 1 week a year. So in 2 weeks I will officially be unemployed and working towards my dream!

Sara, I completely understand you. It’s so difficult to be working 9 to 5 when your thoughts are with your kid and husband. Don’t talk about traveling! 1 week off is nothing for all the adventures the world have to offer. I resigned my previous 9 to 5 job when my boss told me I couldn’t take a day off to attend my daughter school performance on mothers’s day. I am glad to hear that you will be working towards your dream and hopefully you will be traveling and spending quality time with your family. Next week I am going to publish the 3rd and 4th post of this series and I use as an example how to make a plan to be a work from home. Stay tuned!
